The original Yellowstone is nearing its final ride.

On May 5, the Paramount Network announced that the fifth season of its hit series—starring Kevin Costner as Montana cattle rancher John Dutton—will be the show's last.

However, a month after the final episodes release in November, expect to see a currently untitled sequel hit screens, courtesy of creator Taylor Sheridan.

"Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits—from 1883 to Tulsa King," President and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy said in a statement to E! News, "and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life."

CEO of co-production company 101 Studios David Glasser added, "The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world."

Though the cast of the new series—one of the franchise's several spinoffs—has not yet been revealed, McCarthy previously confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that Matthew McConaughey was lined up to star in a Yellowstone extension.

Costner himself has not commented on the news about Yellowstone ending or about his future with the franchise. In his March interview with the Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy said that the series "wouldn't be what it is today without Kevin and we hope that that stays for a long time to come."

Meanwhile, Costner is navigating a difficult personal matter. News of the show also comes days after his rep confirmed to E! News that the actor and his wife, Christine Baumgartner, have split after 18 years of marriage.
